Scrapbooking Budget

You need to determine how much you want to spend on your scrapbooking.  It is easy to spend a lot of money on scrapbooking.  Personally, I didn't want to spend a lot of money on scrapbooking until I knew it was a hobby for me.  So I started out very basic.  I decided to use 8.5 x 11 paper since it is cheaper to use than the 12 x 12 and easier to find at the time.  Keep in mind I started scrapbooking in the early 90’s and there wasn’t nearly the supplies available as there is now.  At the time, you could buy the paper for it (8.5 x 11) just about anywhere and easier to buy in bulk (like at costco and office stores).  So I purchased a 3 ring binder for a couple of dollars at walmart, a box of acid free page protectors and a package of colored acid free paper at costco.   Then I was ready to roll.

The 12x12 scrapbooking albums can be rather spendy but are of nice quality, so it really depends on your taste and what appeals to you and of course how much you want to spend.  Walmart has a nice selection of scrapbooking stuff for a very reasonable price.  You can also purchase acid free paper/card stock from office supplies stores in larger quantities so it is a little cheaper in the long run.  There are a lot of tools and machines out there for making scrapbooking easier and faster, but I recommend starting out slowly to make sure this is the hobby for you first, and then proceed from there.  Also I highly recommend 'trying before buying' if at all possible.  Some of the tools of the trade work better for one person than another, so it is nice to try out a friends first if you can and see if it is the item for you.
